On the 5th day of our trip we headed south 3 hours to Traverse City and to see the Sleeping Bear Dunes.
Before we left one last card game with G.G.
On the way we saw some falls.
Then we made it to the HUGE sand dunes. These pictures don't do it justice on how tall these things were. The best part was that since it wasn't hot the sand doesn't burn your feet, which was a very good thing.
At the top of the first huge hill we made it up.
The view from it.
Up some more hills.
Then Tamarin and the boys headed out for some more hiking while Ellie and I headed back down to rest.
They did a TON of hiking through the sand and Ryan actually made it all the way to the lake on the other side.
A rest on the way back.
These boys were pretty impressive that they made it over an hour and half of hiking in sand...which is killer.
Coming back down the hill to Ellie and I! Coming down the hill is the best part because you can go so fast!!
Looking at some more dunes.
Then Ryan & Avery decided to do this hill. Again the picture does not do this justice...it was seriously straight up and down. No way did I think Avery was going to make this! It usually takes people over an hour to make it back up. They are in the middle of pic...Ryan in white and Avery in turquoise on their way down.
Then on the way back up. So hard!! Avery did most of it on his own, but Ryan did give him a ride for a bit.
And they are back up! Probably did it in around 30 minutes. Very impressive. Yes this is what it looks like from the top....you can't see the hill because it is STRAIGHT down.
Avery is a rock star!!!!
We drive into Traverse City and finally find a motel to stay at then we play at the park by the lake for a bit.
Some playtime at sunset!
Beautiful and a bit warmer now that we are further south.
Snack time before bed at the motel!
Long, exhausting day, but it was lots of fun!! To be continued...
